folding back
It’s been a few months since I last worked on the route. I haven’t given up on the project. Due to other commitments, I haven’t had the time. To reduce my overhead, I’ll be posting updates on my main website at http://oran.hoshiru.net once again.

brief hiatus
It’s been really busy at school and work and the project hasn’t been touched in a while. I hope to start it up again as things start to clear up, probably as late as mid-June.
Meanwhile, in the real world, Sound Transit is expanding Link light rail testing along the entire route beginning Monday, May 18. Intensive testing will happen between 6 am to 6 pm from Tukwila...

Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel extension of NB route in progress.
On spiral and circular curves
As you can see the curves don’t seem to be accurate enough compared with the real map. I have to brush up on my surveying knowledge on staking out curves and attempt to recreate those nice spiral curves.
Extended NB skeleton route to begin at Westlake Station. It’s a 3-minute trip from Westlake to Capitol Hill and then another 3 minutes to UW Station. Calculations for extending NB all the way to Northgate have begun.
Unmatching plans
The plans for the DSTT that I have are from the original 1980s Metro documents not the recent retrofit. This has made it difficult for me to connect the two sections together. I will attempt to find better plans. Meanwhile, I’ll work on detailing what I got, maybe attempt an extension to Northgate, and try coding the southbound direction.
Stationing error
Oops, the reason for the curve bug was because I got the stationing wrong. Right near the beginning of the U-Link project the stationing equation changes by jumping ahead by 970 meters. Which means I have to redo the section that overlaps the jump. That’s why it felt like forever getting up to Capitol Hill.
Curves and Rollercoasters
Vertical curves (gradients) of NB track from Pine Street to UW Station are complete. I’m calculating horizontal curves in Excel to roughly approximate the spiral transition from tangent to curve. There’s a serious bug with the curve leading out from Pine St. It loops in a circle once before heading up the Hill.
Despite the bugs, it took me 6 minutes 40 seconds to travel from Pine St...
Ground breaking!
Today marks the ground breaking of the Link light rail route for BVE Trainsim. I’ve created a test section of the NB tunnel between the Pine St Stub Tunnel (PSST) and Capitol Hill station. Right now there’s only the gradients and no curves yet. I’m figuring out how to translate the actual plans to fit within the constraints of BVE: no vertical curves, everything is done in 25...
